NOCCO’s February concerts begin with Felix Mendelssohn's A Midsummer Night's Dream Overture, a whimsical and enchanting piece that will transport you into the magical world of Shakespeare's play with its sparkling melodies and vibrant orchestration. Following this piece will be an undoubtedly riveting and virtuosic performance by the winner of NOCCO’s 2024 Concerto Competition, whose name and selected repertoire will be announced in fall 2024. Finally, the concert concludes with Louise Farrenc's Symphony No. 2 in D Major, Op. 35, a compelling work that exemplifies her prowess as a 19th-century composer. Farrenc's Symphony No. 2 is noted for its structural clarity, melodic inventiveness, and the seamless integration of classical form with Romantic expressiveness, showcasing her unique voice in the symphonic tradition.
