Sophie Baird-daniel

 Sophie Baird-Daniel is a harpist based out of Seattle, Washington.  She can be heard performing regularly around her native Pacific Northwest as a substitute with Seattle Symphony, Seattle Opera, San Francisco Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, and Portland Opera.  Other orchestral engagements have included the Houston Symphony, Charlotte Symphony, the National Ballet of Canada, and the Orqesta Filarmónica de Jalisco. Recently, Sophie spent the summer of 2016 at the Tanglewood Music Center where she played under the batons of Stéphane Denève, Stefan Asbury, and John Williams.

Excited by all facets of musical life, Sophie spearheads musical projects in and around the region.  She is the founder and co-director of Archipelago Collective, an innovative chamber music festival in the San Juan Islands. Upcoming 2018 engagements include an invitation to the prestigious International Harp Contest in Israel, a recital series in Friday Harbor, WA, and as a featured chamber musician at the Bellingham Festival of Music. 

She completed her undergraduate degree and artist diploma at the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto under the tutelage of Judy Loman.  Previously, she studied under Valerie Muzzolini of the Seattle Symphony and Naomi Kato, who started her on the instrument at the age of 8. Other mentors have included Jessica Zhou, Nancy Allen, and Isabelle Perrin.
